About
What is the Broomhill Forum?
The Broomhill Forum Provides an opportunity for all who have an interest in Broomhill to meet in order to exchange information, consult on and discuss matters which are of concern to the community. The forum is recogonised by the City Council as a community group and as such contributes to the democratic political processes.
Who Attends?
Anyone who lives in Broomhill, as well as the major organisations who have an impact on the local community including: Permanent local residents, students, local resident groups, local schools, businesses, The University of Sheffield, The University of Sheffield Union of Students, Faith Groups, Local Councillors, Local Police Safer Neighbourhood officers, Sheffield City Council Officers.
Where do you meet?
St Marks Church, opposite the Hallamshire Hospital.
How often?
The Broomhill Forum meets four times per year. Dates are advertised on the noticeboard on the shopping centre or on our website here.
What are your achievements?
We bring people together to hear concerns and to share possible solutions. Where there is agreement or a majority view this can be conveyed to other agencies including Sheffield City Council. In practical terms, this has led to actions on issues such as street cleaning, planting, parking, planning and other important issues. We can also invite guest speakers in any key areas of concern to the local community, such as parks and tree planting.
What do you discuss?
Anything which is impacting on the lives of the local community. Issues that are frequently raised are planning, parking, traffic, noise and disturbance, graffiti and litter, premises opening hours, improvements to the shopping centre, street furniture, bins and untidy premises.
Who organises the forum?
The Broomhill Forum is an independent local organisation. There is a Forum Executive that comprises the officers (Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer); three members elected by the residents; representatives from all the affiliated groups; and one of the local councillors. The officers are elected annually, normally from among members of the Forum who fall into the category of resident.
If I cannot attend the meeting, but have ideas I'd like you to include, how do I pass these on?
You can ring one of the Broomhill Forum executive members or send an email and your ideas will be passed on. Click here for the key contacts.
How much does it cost?
Any local resident can attend the Forum free of charge. However, the Forum is a voluntary organisation which is supported by subscriptions from both organisations and individual members.
If you are interested in becoming a member please send your name, address, phone number and any email contact details to Mark Blades, 14 Watson Road, Broomhill, S10 2SD.
